I've removed those bolts by putting a wrench on the head and giving it a few good whacks with a hammer. You may need to lock the transmission by setting the brakes so the shaft won't turn. Make sure you get the wrench set good on the bolt head, as the heads on these bolt are thin and would be easy to round off. I such situations, a 6 point wrench is a big help as opposed to the usual 12 point wrench.

Hi John: Hope I'm not to late. If you have a heavy punch, place it right behind the head of the bolt you wish to remove. Right where the shoulder of bolt would be. It is a tapered shank. Give it a good whack with a heavy hammer. They pop right out. Make sure and replace the rubber cushion in the cup washer when assembling, as that is what makes for quiet running for the drive shaft. Hope that helps. OLD DUTCH

I have had success by holding the coupler so it couldn't turn and putting a wrench on the bolt head and turning it. You may need a "cheater" for extra leverage.

It's been a couple of years since I did that to my H and I don't really remember how much room there is. But you might be able to get the end of a small pry bar between the end of the bolt and the housing. What I do remember is that I shouldn't have trusted myself to remember how the u-joint goes back together. I thought when I took it apart that there was only one way to fit the pieces back to each other. Messed up those little rubber pads before I realized my mistake.

I would suggest that you wedge some thing solid between the bolt and the transmission case, then hit the u-joint with a hammer and punch. HTH
