My farmall cub has new gas, the points are clean. I attempted to start but failed. Plenty of power to turn her over, but will not start. The carb will leak a little. Need ideas.

thanks

We could guess all day long, even based on our experiences it could take a while. Bus Driver is correct, you are missing one critical item of the three.

My suggestion would be to read the Best of H.L. Chauvin at the link below. It worked for me and many other cubbers. You can access a whole world of info on your cub from owners to blue ribbon service to parts manuals there.

You probably will end up thoroughly cleaning the carb - good idea at any rate, and if you follow thru with Chauvin's tips it will run!

Hope this helps

I do two things that help troubleshoot the engine:

1. Remove the spark plugs and ground them to the chassis (one at a time). As the engine turns over, there should be a spark (be careful of gas fumes). If not, the plug or electrical is bad.

2. If there is a spark, squirt a little gas into each spark plug hole, put the plugs back in, and start it. It should run for a few seconds and stop. What I've found after doing this is either the engine keeps going and works fine, or the carburetor is gummed up. The last one I worked on, a BN, needed to be soaked in carburetor solvent; this was even after I soaked it in lacquer thinner and rebuilt it. It works great now.

An engine with compression, proper ignition spark and timing and proper fuel/air mixture will fire. Yours is lacking at least one of these. If you could furnish more information, someone here could offer more specific possible cures for the non-firing condition.
