Farmall A surges

I went out to start my Farmall (well actually an International A) A to start mowing this weekend. I have a belly mower on it and the grass is growing in Texas.) I had not started it since November. Initially it would not start. I took off the carb and blew it out with some carb cleaner (I always shut off the gas and run the tractor until it runs out of gas when I shut it down). It now starts but runs rough and surges and seems to miss--without full power. It seems to run a little better choke out some. I noticed some oil inside the distributor cap. My first inclination is back to carb, but maybe oil on points. Welcome any thoughts.

I had the same problem with an M and an A last year after starting the first go of the year. The problem was moisture in the fuel. I did everything on the list....but gas line de-icer fixed it up directly (methyal hydrate). Gee... maybe you never get ice in Texas, but condensation is possible. Good luck!

I will see if I can find some deicer here in north Texas. We had winter this past year...it was on a Saturday...got a little skift of snow..maybe 2-3" and melted by the next day. Thanks Larry

I would have to agree that it is probably in the carburator. Might be a little air leak, or needs adjustment.
