We have a international 986 tractor that when we take it down the road in road gear at full throttle it goes the same speed as it does with it at 3/4 throttle. it seems like after the tractor gets to a certain RPM it seems to stay at that RPM. Any help would be appreciated. Cody

Check to see if the throttle control arm on the pump shaft is verticle with itself, it is spring loaded and if the high speed adjustment is limiting it, then it will be pulled back some. The high speed adustment is the acorn nut to the outside lower rear of the pump. Remove the nut and then loosen the thin nut and turn the slotted end screw out (counterclockwise) one round should show a difference.

hi cody. does the linkage move the whole distance, but the engine speed only goes to 3/4 speed? if fuel filters are clean (so it isn't starving for fuel), my uneducated guess is that the injection pump is getting ready to leave town. my 966 has had 2 new pumps. the first time, it only wanted to idle, the 2nd time it only roared. i'm thinking that pumps don't all behave the same when they go bad. hope yours is something less expensive than a pump.

The engine rpm is fine it runs at the RPM's it should. it acts like the rpms aren't getting to the rear end of the tractor. I think it might have to do something with the clutch or torque but don't konw what. Any help would be appreciated.

i understand your question now. but i'm not coming up with any theories as to why the tractor is behaving that way.
