I'v read a lot of posts about replacing the PTO seal and most describe the later style. A few make reference to the early style being a little harder but don't explain. I'm going to replace mine. 1940 M #22402 early style. Can anyone walk me through it?
Thanks

It's pretty easy. Make sure the rear end fluid is below the level of the PTO housing. Unbolt the housing from the tractor and either drive or pull the current seal from the housing. The new one I got was about half as thick, but seems to work fine. I've seen other posts discuss using two new style seals. Start the seal carefully, rubber toward the front of the tractor and tap in with a plastic hammer. Good luck.
