I've just gotten a '52 Super w6 running after 10-15 years. New radiator, thermostat, radiator cap, etc. How long should it take to warm up under minimum load-just idling or driving on the road? I've run mine for 15-20 min at a time, just barely gets above 130. How do you tell if water is circulating properly?
Thanks

Don't know where you live, but in Kansas at 70 degrees or lower, it takes a long time before my gauge even moves off of cold. I would say 130 in 20 minutes is normal.

Thanks, With the large radiator and no load, I hoped that would be the answer. Spent a long time getting to this point, don't want to mess up now. By the way, I live in North Texas near Dallas.

Circulation is detectible by swirling water in the radiator after the thermostat starts to open. Problem is, until you put a load on it, the therm will crack, let in a little water, and shut back down. Hard to detect movement that way. Course you could block air to the radiator and speed up the process. Just remember to remove the blockage...I forgot one time. Tractor started really running hot and couldn't figure out why until I went forward and saw the plastic bag over the grille.

Checking for flow is dangerous after it warms up you know,as you usually have a pressure cap and taking it off when warm/hot subjects you to steaming water so be careful if you choose to do that.

Thanks, Guess I'm just a little nervous about a tractor that hasn't run in so long. Want to be sure (as much as possible) that I don't crack a head or create other problems.
