I have just purchased a planter that mounts on the side of my cub. It is chain driven from a sprocket on the back axle. Has a seed and fertilizer hopper,a packer wheel, and a shoe like device that opens a slit for the seed. I believe this must be the 171 or 172 cub planter. How do I tell which this is? Does anyone know if plates are still available from IH? The plates that I got with it all have 4 digit numbers, each starting with 79. Thanx David

Well mine has a second hopper for fertilizer. Maybe this is the 179 Blackland Planter.

Any chance you can post a few pictures of the planter in the implement photos section of this web site? Post a picture of the plates also and I might be able to tell if they are the standard type used on other IH planters.
