I just bought an early 80s model 2444 gasoline tractor. Does anyone know what the HP rating is on this particular model? How about what size bush hog it could handle? I am also interested in purchasing a front end loader for this tractor and wonder if anyone could suggest a good place to look on the web for one. Thanks, D.

Delma, You probably have a 35 to 40 PTO horsepower output. Depending on what you are going to be mowing, you can go anywhere from 5' to an 8' side by side. I personally am running a 6' medium grade (90 hp gearbox) behind a B414 diesel. I can run through knee high stuff at a 4th or 5th gear clip. I've never been below 3rd, unless the manouver room was really tight.

I'll let the other folks talk to you about front end loaders, but I have seen a few on ebay. Hope this helps. Joe

The IH models that were made for the 434,444 and 384 were the 1501 and the 1550. The 1501 had only single acting cylinders on the arms (no down force). The 1550 had double acting cylinders and had down force. Have had both loaders and they are great loaders for that tractor. The 1550 is better if you are digging holes. I assume there also was an industrial model to fit your 2444.

Good hunting
