Clutch Stuck on Farmall 140

As is normal practice, I attempted to crank my 140 for spring garden work and found that my clutch is stuck and will not release.

I towed it off and cranked it, then lowered front and rear cultivators as deep as they would plow, hoping this would break it loose. No results.

Has anyone had a similar happening?? Any suggestions as to how to proceed, short of breaking the tractor in two.

It is time to lay off rows for garden and I am about to panic.

Vernon: I would try Ken's solution, WD-40 isn't ging to hurt your clutch. In fact what I like doing is at both inspection cover and hole for starter. Get someone to turn it slowly on the crank while you continuously spray. Always tie the clutch pedal down.

It sounds like your clutch disk has rusted to the flywheel. If your tractor has an inspection cover on the bottom of the clutch housing try removing it so WD-40 can be sprayed on the back side of flywheel. Sometimes you can remove the starter and get to the problem with WD-40. After soaking it good, turn the wet side up then tie your clutch pedal down over night then try your luck breaking it loose. I've worked as a mechanic for 50 years and found this proceedure to work most of the time. Good Luck, Ken

This problem appears from time to time. You could have another tractor pull you while you hold the clutch in with the transmission in low gear, or if you have a little room, start it in gear then hold the clutch pedal down and put on the brakes as hard as you can.

You can start it and then with the clutch pedal down jerk it in 4th gear. I;ve done this before without any problem but it is possible to pop a tooth off doing this.
