My farmall will not start at all. It has a push button starter that just clicks when trying to start. I have put a new battery and 1 gauge cables on. It has a new distributor cap and wires. I had the starter tested and it works great. I would really like to get this thing running. Thanks for any help.

The h's were notorious for locking up the starters. but since you have taken yours out that probably not it. I had trouble with mine doing that to. I happened to touch the battery cable and it was very hot. Put on new 2 or 0 gauge cables and cured it.

I had that problem the other day on my H and I removed the starter and connected the battery charger to it and it ran fine. I put it back on the tractor and it started fine. Go figure!!!

Thanks for the responses. I have already tried most of the suggestions. I guy at my farm today said it sounded like a solenoid problem. I will look into that next.

Thanks again.
Jeff

I have the best results if I ground the cable on a starter mounting bolt. That is the path of least resistance for electricity going to the starter.
Take the push button apart and clean up those terminals, even filing if necessary.
Randy's suggestion will tell you if the switch is the culprit or not.

When you replaced the battery cables did you make a good ground connection where the ground cable fastens to the frame? Also, have you taken the cables loose from the push button starter? If any/all of these are not making good connection you will not get a good circuit. You can also jumper across the push button to rule that out.
