I don't have a book so I ask here. How much pressure is the belly pump supposed to make? Will it run a log splitter if I pipe the return back to the resevoir? Will it lift a 9 foot IH #37 disk with a 4 inch cylinder? Thanks all

I have a '42 H Farmall. Had it pressure checked and it was 500 psi.

I think you will have a problem pulling the disk not lifting it.

if you have an early H, 400 psi. A later model H should give you 800 psi. Sorry, not sure of the serial numbers. mike

267057-up had the 800 psi pump. That would be late 1947. A 9 foot disk is too much for an H to pull, unless you run very shallow. 6-8 is more like it, if you want any depth (I assume you mean tandem disk). If it is a wheel controlled disk, I imagine it would lift it. If you mean 3 point, the front end will come up.

It is a wheel disk. It'll pull it fine in 1st and 2nd gear.I have 3 sets of wheel weights on it and new tires and strong engine,I do have trouble turning without lifting the disk. I bought the tractor 10 or more years ago and it did'nt have a pump at all. I bought a pump at a salvage yard and am about to install it.I still have to get a new seal for the pump shaft. I don't suppose theres a relief valve that can be upgraded. Thanks for all the replies

I believe there is a different relief spring you can install to bring it up to 800. Search the farmall archives for 'lift-all' and I think there's a mention of this or talk to your IH dealer. I recently rebuilt one that was already at 800 - there was a yellow dot on the pump plate inside. Some folks say they've seen it marked with a yellow '8'. As long as you are inside, I'd replace all the springs, gaskets and balls. Altogether they only come to about $30. It's worth doing it now so you don't have to go back in.

My understanding is that the 800 psi pump has an yellow (orange??) mark on it, if it's still there.
