I am buying an IH 364 that had a single wire Delco 12V alternator put on it years ago. It worked perfect but since then the tractor has been rewired and it doesn't charge now. Can anyone show me somewhere on the net that shows the simple wiring schematic of this? I just need the relationship between the alt., battery, amp gage and ign. switch. If I recall correctly, the alt. has an "R" and an "F" terminal then it has a single post that I assume is 12 volt wire from the battery. A fellow drew this out for me real quick on a piece of paper one time but now I've lost it and don't remember. Thanks for your help.

Here's someone's diagram for a standard Delco system. For a one-wire system, omit the wire to the #1 terminal on the back of the alternator.

Here's some more one or three wire information.

if it is a single wire alt...then your alt is bad..if was charging before, one wire alt just needs to go thur amp meter to battery...you do have to race motor up to kick off alt...have nice day may god bless

What about the "R" and "F" terminals? Is there a link from this site that shows a simply wiring schematic of the alt, gage, battery and switch? It sure is easier when I can see it. Thanks.

Bob M, seems like this tractor I'm going to buy does have "R" and "F" terminals - is there a wiring schematic available for that. Also, thanks for the diagram you sent. If I do have a single wire like you sent, since I have a diesel and no dist., how do I wire the ign switch part of the circuit? Thanks.

Greg - If you really have a single wire alternator Cannonball's advice is right on. (Punch below for a typical single wire alternator connection diagram).

However if your alternator has R and F terminals, it is an early 3-wire unit. It requires an external regulator + wiring to the R and F terminals in order to work.

As per my post above, if you look closely at the alternator, many are marked with the dual labels of R1, F2.

They way to be sure if it is an internally regulated 10 SI is the terminal layout.

[l l] ... terminals side by side ... External regulator (and YES, some of the 10SI looking alternators WERE set up this way).

[- -] ... terminals flatwise... INTERNAL regulator.

Indeed! I've also seen a few Delco 10SI with the #1 and #2 terminals labelled "Lamp" and "Sense" respectively...
