Farmall M-Plug Fouled?

My M runs very well at idle, but as the trottle is increased she runs like all cylinders are not there. I pulled the plugs and they have lots of black build up. A couple of the plugs were pretty wet with gasoline also. Could this simply be a fouled plug? I just bought the tractor so I guess anything is possible. The tractor holds great oil pressure. Any trouble shooting tips would be helpful. Thanks.

It's sometimes hard to tell if all cylinders are firing when an engine is idling. You can pull the wires off the distributer cap or plugs one at a time and see if the engine runs any different. If you pull off a wire and it doesn't change how the engine runs, then you know that cylinder wasn't firing. I use pliers with insulated handles as I have been kicked before doing this. I also would try 4 new plugs, maybe distributer cap and rotor also depending on how the old ones look. Maybe plug wires also. Those parts aren't too expensive and then you'll at least know those parts are good.
Good luck. Dave.

Sounds like the carburetor is adjusted too rich on the main jet.

I would put in 4 new ones and then take a look aand see how clean they run. Would not hurt to go a step hotter.

Your carberator is set too rich. Turn the power adjust screw (on the bottom pointing towards the radiator)all the way in, then turn out 2 and 3/4 turns. That should do it.
