I live on a family farm in southwest missouri and although my twin brother and I are only 18 years old we already own our fair share of ih's. We recnetly purchased 1468 with a dv 550 (awsome machine) and added a couple 5 inch chrome straight pipes. I was wondering if anyone out there in the wonderful world of red power has, or know of someone who has a M & W turbo kit manufactured for the 14 and 1568 models that they might be willing to sell. Also we have a 1086 that we will be attempting to pull this season and i could use all the helpful info i could get! The problem is I helped my buddy build a 966 (now a 1066 becausue we pulled the air reasearch to4 turbo off of a 1066, did a little compressor modification, and bolted it on. Its a hot little machine and now we are trying to build something that will beat it. Nothing like a little friendly competiton! The main problem is the 1086 doesn have a ta and i jsut dont know how she will perform in front of a sled even with the 11 mm head in the pump and turbo work. Like i said, i would greatly appreciate any info, no mattter how small the tip might be....and if anyone knows of a turbo kit for the 1468, and/or tips for pulling with the 1468 (despite the week bottom end of the dv 550) please let me know. Scott

Scott:

I do not mean to start a ruckus, but I always thought the 550 was weak in the top not the bottom. I would take a V engine any day. Many years ago we had a milk hauler who ran six tandem trucks all with 6-71 Detroits. One was a V, and because of the balance it would out run the rest.

Leave the 1468 in the shed, I hate to say it but it just won't keep up with inline 6's. I pulled mine at the county fair with twin turbo's and when the sled really comes on hard it falls flat on it's face where the 6 cylinder will hang in there. It sounds really neat going down the track but it just doesn't have it in the lug department.

Pete, when you say your 1468 falls on its face what weight class are you pulling? What speed and what gear? If your talking modified IH 6 cylinder tractors with larger chargers and larger pumps then I would have to agree. But in stock tractor compatation the 1468 will hold its own.

I just talked to a guy today that has 2 M&W turbo setups for V-8's, he wanted $1500 for each set and that's without turbo's. I thought it was kind of high myself, but it's your money.
