560 hydraulic problem

The hydraulic system is making a squealing sound and keeps the engine under load. If I put a short jumper hose between two remote outlets and hold the lever back for that outlet, it unloads the engine and most of the squealing subsides. The power steering works fine except the wheels shimmy just a little (tractor stopped). I changed fluid, changed the filter which needed serviced, and the teledepth control had some teeth broken off the differential gears. I disconnected its linkage to the hitch and can move the spool valve in and out with the side lever which makes the noise worse. Any help on how to solve this problem, what to check or do next would be appreciated.

Joe: Jim J bring up a good point which I had forgotten about probably because this was not my problem.

On the Hydra-Touch spools, an extension of the spools themselves poke out into the open. These have 'flats' on them so that you can turn the spools for operating a two-way or one-way remote cylinder. Proper positioning of the spools is accomplished by roll pins thru the spool shafts, and the pins are indexed by small keeper clips. Sometimes the spools will get turned to an in-between position and/or the roll pins get bent or are missing. Also the indexing clips may be gone. Any of these conditions will confuse the hydraulic system and get it all confused about what it's supposed to do.

Hot damn wilbur! Got my 460 hydro problems all resolved today! Culprit? Plugged orifice again! Looked to us like a wood chip blocking flow.

Man, oh man, Joe. I have just gone thru the EXACT same thing with a 460. I still don't have it completely resolved, but I'm close.

Well, number one, you've got to fix the Tel-A-Depth differential gears.

Number two, bet you ten bucks to a donut the orifice plug and screen is plugged. Just behind the sheetmetal where the brake set pull rod attaches, are the Hydra-Touch spool valves and the Tel-A-Depth spool valve. Also in this area and mounted low close to the transmission is the pressure relief/pressure regulator control. According to the I+T manual, location of all this stuff is self evident. Hardee har har.

The orifice plug can be accessed by removing the regulator block cap and its 4 cap screws. The cap faces rearward toward the gear shift. Unscrew only two of the cap screws and remove them. Then insert longer cap screws in these holes, then back out the two remaining original cap screws. This keeps the pressure relief spring from launching into the back 40.

The orifice plug is noted by its screwdriver slot. It will be staring right at you. Remove it and check it. If this is plugged, the regulator valve can't get a signal to dump pressure during over-pressure conditions which is what you describe. Check the screen and the orifice plug hole.

My over-pressure squealing conditions are resolved. Now I can't get the hitch to settle down. Some coffee, reading glasses, and my brother's brains will get this fixed. Then I'm going to plow.

some success.. i replaced the entire hyd. valve assembly with one from a doner tractor. the continuous load on the engine is gone. i have no clue what is wrong with my old unit. i still have a high pitch noise that i think is comming from the hyd. pump. my next trick is to replace it. i did use the single acting "hydro-touch" system check valve from my old system. i repaced an O ring in it but other wise it looked ok. what does the single acting valve do?

Today I removed the regulator block and everything looked good. The screen was crushed a little but not bad. No sludge or dirt. The pistons and bores looked ok. some score marks. I replaced the O ring on regulator valve piston. No change. At 900 rpms the engine drops to 700 rpms if I don't have the lever back sending fluid around the loop of hose plugged into the remotes. At 1700 rpm it will drop about 200 rpms but then the governor picks it back up to about 1600 rpms. My loop hose is only 3/8" so there is some noise
even with the lever back. especially at the higher rpms. So what is next? Replace the entire valve body? The single to dual switch-over roll pins are moving to their stops just fine.

Also check the rollpins on the single to double adjustment
