my buddy has put a turbo on his 966 and now we he wants to turn the pump up i have warned him about all the things that could go wrong but he does care and neither do i because its not my money, with that said , after taking the top plate off there is a wedge type piece that can be turned to adjust the full load stop plus as set screw under neith it , do both of these need to be reset so they both hit at the same time.

The last one I turned up after warning the owner what could happen wasn,t long and it had a rod on the outside of the block, it was a very expensive fix.

Just back out the top screw on the excess fuel device one turn (about 20HP). Don't change any other settings!

thanks i figured that out after i posted the message we only moved it a half a turn and it seems to be making a diffrence for the better because of the turbo, he only uses it about twice a year anyway so im sure the tractor will rot away before we see any real proof of damage, i have a 1086 and a 7130. the 1086 was turned up when i got it and would pull with the 7130 but after i rebuild the engine and put a new pump on it wont but i dont care because of the fuel differnece ive been noticeing

I turned the pump up on my 1066 years ago with the advice of a old retired IH mechanic he said to loosen the one nut and back the screw out 1 round. On mine it went from aprox 130 to 160 hp. It also used oil from that day on. I would persoanlly never turn the pump up on a Tractor (my 2 cents worth) If your neighbor needs more power he needs to sell his 966 and purchase a larger tractor

I bought a new 1566 in late 1976 and never turned the smoke screw up. Still have the old girl after about 9000 hours. I always pulled implements which were the correct size for a 160 HP tractor. Just my 2 cents. Ray
