I would like to know the horsepower on a 1948 Farmall M. The Nebraska test I saw was done on a 1939 M. Is the HP the same or did it increase any between 1939 and 1948? Thanks in advance!

No way to really know without a dyno, or dragging some equipment that you've pulled with something else for comparison.
If the engine's pure stock and in really good shape, you might have close to Nebraska Test hp. If it's been overhauled for serious farm work, and it's still in good shape, you may have more. Thousands of the old beasts received oversize (264cid) sleeves and pistons, high-compression pistons, and had the governors tinkered with to run rpms beyond factory setting. I've got a '49 M that dynoed 52hp a few years back when it was overhauled the last time.

Without looking up the NE tests, the engines made the same HP until the Super M came out. There were HP differences in whether or not the engines were designed for gasoline, distillate, or kerosene. The IH rating for the gasoline engine was 34 and a fraction on the drawbar. Kerosene and distillate were slightly less. HP will also vary depending on whether it has standard or high altitude pistons.

I should add that "fire crater" and other pistons were available. These added more power -- someone correct me, but I don't think these were factory installed, but were overhaul parts.
