i pulled the belly pump to re route the return line from my live hydraulic pump directly into the belly pump. however, when i pulled the "pump" it turns out someone had already gotten rid of the pump and put a resevoir in it's place. there are no other pipe fitting on the resevoir than the breather tube outlet, live pump feed, and drain plug. i am considering drilling a hole in the plate that bolts on the side of the resevoir and welding a pipe fitting in the plate to return oil from a control valve. any comments or other suggestions are welcome. also, will returning the fluid to a lower spot on the resevoir eliminate my problem of oil coming out of the breather tube? ( oil used to be returned about an inch or two below the breather tube)

Thanks!

will the drain plug be large enough for the volume of oil returning to the resevoir? it's only 1/2 inch and i would like it to be 3/4 or so.

Why not return the oil to the drain plug at the bottom of the casting. You can put a "tee" fitting in and still have a drain as well.

use the drain plug hole, you can dump the return in the top.

If there is a hole in your breather cap, drill and tap it for a plug so it doesn't leak! If your tractor had a 2 way hydraulic system on it from the factory, this filler cap will have a small valve where the breather hole would be. Make sure it is shut off when using 2 way cylinders. Open the valve when using 1 way cylinders. If you don't plan on using 1 way cylinders, just plug the hole as I mentioned above. See your LATE Farmall H or Super H tractor manual that shows the 2 way hydraulic system for the details. (With 2 way cylinders you don't need a breather because the oil never leaves the system - unless you have a bad leak!) Good Luck!
