Does the hood for a W6 attach to the gas tank the same as on an M? I have an M tank on my W6, but there doesn't seem to be any place for the J spring to attach to the tank. Does the tank have to be from a W6? Thanks.
Bill

Bill, An M gas tank should work just fine on your W6. The rear "J hook" mechanism is the same for both tractors.

I just went and looked at the W-6 gas that I just found this winter, I'm trying to make it run, it has sat in a shed for over 10 years that I know about and maybe even longer. The engine turns and the fuel tank is dry no rust or varnish. I see that I will need to find a "better" rear rim.

I went and looked at the fuel tank and it's made just like an M with the hooks welded on the front for the J hooks to catch on. I hope this helps, good luck.

We swapped out the original tank on my W6 with an NOS M tank. The rear hook catchs on a metal bracket that is welded in the corner of the tank just below the seam.

Thanks for the responses. My hooks are about an inch in front of the bracket on the tank. The bracket wraps around the corner of the tank and has a diagonal slot on the side facing the radiator. Should there be anything protruding from the bracket for the hook to attach to? I may have to find an M or W6 to look at. Thanks again.

Just going to memory here, but there should be a small hooked tab that comes off that bracket. I believe it was all one piece & bent out 90 deg
from the bracket and then bent 90 deg again the form a hook. If it's broken off, there should still be a triangular hole in the front of the bracket from where it was stamped out.

Thanks. I guess that's what's missing.
