You could have badly worn pedal shaft, pedals and /or linkage. These do wear badly and they are critical to getting the necessary travel to getting release and the clutch disengaging. Been there recently. Let us know what ends up being the solution. I am sure you will find it. Be happy it is a M not a Super M where the tractor must be split.

I'm with Jim on this one. The pedal linkages are so worn on my 450 that I can only have "positive" clearance between the clutch fingers and the throwout bearing - not the recommended 3/16" gap. Otherwise, the clutch would not disengage so I could change gears. The gap is less than spec, but everything works.

Some of those pedals and shafts really get woren. I'm thinking about setting up a jig on my bridgeport milling machine to machine those pedals out and install a bushing that would fit a new shaft properly. Would this be something that there is a need for? MN charlie

There is a need for it, but any machine shop can do it, had the clutch and one brake pedal done locally last year. OEM Tractor Parts, and others will do it also -- but, if you could do it cheaper and start a price war, that would be welcome.

I think there would be a need and it will get greater as these machines get older.

TL, Could be any of the problems mentioned by yourself or Haas. I learned the hard way not to assume replacement pressure plate fingers are set correctly from rebuilder or factory. Won't hurt to check it.

Did you replace the throwout (clutch release) bearing and the pilot bearing. Sounds like the clutch is not releasing or these bearings are dragging. Also, if the clutch splines are worn or damaged, the clutch disk may not slide back like it is supposed to do.

Yes, I replaced the throwout bearing and pilot.I put the pressure plate in just as it was from the dealer.Since I didn't measure the pressure plate cover height or lever height,I am wondering if this is my problem.

As Val said, are you sure you did not put the clutch disc plate in backwards? If you did that, the ring on the plate will keep the clutch from disengaging. However, in that case, I would not think you would have the free pedal travel you say you have.
