I have an H with a sputter problem. I replaced the points, condensor, rotor, and Dist cap. replaced plug wires and new plugs. set gap on points to .020 and plugs to .025 only thing different is that it is not an IH distributor it is a Delco from what I can tell. Anyway's 2nd cylinder from the back of the tractor, that plug is wet, switch it with another but the problem stays with that cylinder. anything else I can try???

the engine was just overhauled last fall before a bought it.. new pistons, sleeves, etc.. I will try a Chapion D-21 plug, then the stuck valve route, and then I suppose the manifold gasket.. see what happens..

Also, the head was gone through,, valves, etc.. How would I go about loosening a stuck valve?? Just take the valve cover off and start working with it????

You would have to take the head off and replace the valve and valve guide to correct a stuck or sticking valve. You can try the hotter spark plug only trouble with the d-21 is that its to hot if you work the tractor hard it will cause prignition. In MN with the 10% ethonal blend I have to run D15Y plugs to keep my farmalls from pinging. I guess my best advice would be to do a commpression test before you replace any parts. You can borrow or rent a tester from a parts store or rental place. Takes only about 20 min's and it will rule in or out mechanical problems and you can go from there. Scott.

You need 4 things for a gas engine to run, Fuel, Air, Spark, Compression. You know you have the first three so I would do a compression test. I bet you have a bad valve like Rich said. Also but not as likely could be a bad head gasket or badly scored cylinder. Good luck

Should also add that the 2nd cylinder plug that is wet, is also wayyy cooler than the rest of them to the touch. However while running I pulled the plug wire and sputtering didn't change.. but when I put the wire close to the plug I had plenty of spark.. This really has me stumped!~

You have a burnt valve or a stuck valve. My thoughts.
