Am installing new Ammeter gauge from Parts store.can be used for 6 or 12 volt system.Posts on back of ammeter are designated bat. and alt.Mycircuit syst.is regulatorand magneto pos. gound 6 volt.how do I hook up this to my tractor?What wires to Bat. and which to alt. on Ammeter. Thank you anyone

If running a generator, be sure to polarize. It may show charging backwards (discharge) if you don't. Best way to check meter polarity is to connect a test load from from side opposite bat connection on the meter to ground and see if discharge is indicated.

Battery goes by itself on one post, and charging system and ALL loads (if any) go on other post.

If meter is hooked up backwards for a given battery ground, it will READ BACKWARDS, but not be harmed. If this is the case, swap all wires to the opposite post from where you started.

The meter you have is more than likely for a negative ground system, and you will wind up with the battery on the (ALT) terminal, and the wire from the charging system to the (BAT) terminal.
