Well, I contacted a carb rebuilder/parts provider. and they said that the numbers on the carb go to a 1949 C Distillate tractor...

numbers- 48616DC
and 9749

They said that DC means distillate carburetor.

They said that the numbers falls within the serial list of a 1949 C tractor...

Is this distilate carb okay to use on my engine, that will only burn gas?

Its got fire crater pistons, and small CC head (distillate?) and will have a gas manifold.

You have a distillate carburator, but DC has nothing to do with it. The original suffix was D. Revisions began with the addition of A, so you had DA, DB, and now DC. Your carb will fit a C, but the 48616 is in the Super A parts book, not the C parts book. Also the gas carb for the Super A is 52499 DB, the D does not stand for distillate, it's just the way IH numbered parts. The "correct" 161 x 7 Zenith carb for your C is 352 046 R93, but the one you have will work, as will others.

Hey CNKS... my book says that 48 616 DC and 352 046 R93 are both distillate/kerosene carbs. I have no jet specs for the 352 046 R93, (the line is blank) so I don't know what the gas version is. The only difference between the Super A gas and distillate carbs is the main metering jet, which is a tiny bit smaller on the gas carb. There is a 4th 161x7 gas carb, 375 560 R91, but the jets are larger than the Super A carbs.

Zenith 161X7-9749 (IH 48 616 DC) is for A-AV-B-BN kero. or dist. according to the I&T manual. Not listed for any Super A version.
Super C gas is a Zenith 67X7-???? If someone has a Super C parts book we may be able to identify the correct factory zenith carb. for your tractor. And I can add the info to my I&T manual.
But if the carb you have will bolt to the manifold, and the throttle, choke and fuel line match up, put it on and run the tractor. Nothing is going to be damaged or blow up. If it runs OK, then it just won't be as efficient as the correct factory carb. At least you can use the tractor while finding the right part.

Thanks -- You're the 1st person who has mentioned the jet size, I knew that was the main difference, but never knew if it was larger or smaller.

Thats odd, IH didn't usually number their parts that way....

Obviously IH had to buy the carburetors from Zenith, so perhaps IH did use the Zenith part number. IH used the Delco number on electrical system parts, so there is a precedent for IH using the supplier numbers.

That's not a bad price for a carb kit, who is the vendor? I have a couple of Zeniths that could use kits.
