new clutch for H--IHC Rebuilt vs. Brand X

I need to replace the clutch (disk and pressure plate) on my super H, with either a new or rebuilt. I would be greatly appreciative if any expert could give me their opinion on 2 questions:

1) Is rebuilt just as good as new?

2) Is there an advantage to paying more for an IH rebuilt one from my local IHC dealer, as opposed to buying one from "a leading tractor parts mail order company"? I have heard that: wherever you get these rebuilt clutches from, they are all rebuilt by the same company.

Thanks for the advice!

If you live near a reasonably big city, look for a local clutch rebuilder.

I use Tulsa Clutch in Tulsa for work tractors and have never been disappointed with a rebuilt pressure plate or clutch plate.

Places which do truck clutches will do tractor clutches.

Inanswer to your questions

1. Rebuilt is seldom as good as new but is so close you'll never notice it.

2. Don't know who rebuilds what for whom but I'd imagine no big company uses just one rebuilder.

You might want to check the clutch adjustment procedure for your tractor. On mine (424) it says you need a new disk to make the adjustment, once that's done, you can then replace the new one with the old one if it's in good shape.

I bought my Super H rebuilt clutch from Bates Corp, didn't compare with Case-IH -- I imagine the clutch is the same, there shouldn't be much difference in price, but I don't know. Clutch is fine. The main thing is to buy from a reputable supplier, which Bates is. $209.97 exchange, including shipping, for disc and pressure plate along with release bearing--Feb 2003.

Never had trouble with an IH pressure plate or clutch(yet). I have just replaced a 4 year old after market pressure plate. It started to grab / drag in the middle of the season. It did get by, but I was not looking forward to removing the hyd. pump and clutch to look at it. The price difference was peanuts compared to the bother it would have been to replace it when I needed the tractor.
