H Block drain and Rad. Vent plug question

I was rereading my Farmall H Manual. It says to drain the coolant out of the block drain and fill the radiator until water comes out of the vent plug (On the thermostat housing). I am sure that those plugs haven't ever been out. Should I try to get them out or will I be looking for trouble? If I should have to take them out, how should I do it? Maybe drill a hole through the centers? I DON'T want to use heat on the block , especially anywhere near the gas tank. Thanks!!

Agree with the others,Ive never taken out that plug either, and I only have one tractor that I can take the plug out of the block,so I just drain the rad and fill it up a couple of times to flush it out best as I can get it then fill with water and antifreeze and let her go.

Have had my H for 60 yrs and changed the coolant many times and never removed that plug. Just check it again after you have ran it awhile.

I just pour the coolant in slowly when filling the radiator. Check the level after you start the tractor to make sur you didn't have an air bubble. You're right those plugs haven't been out for years.

Well!!! I tell you fellas (now I sound like my dad)back when I was young not so long ago maybe late fifties in Ohio because we were too poor to keep the radiators fixed we only kept anti-freeze in our chore tractor, the H and the rest were our feed grinding tractors M Farmall and McCormick W-30 we would drain the blocks because we only put water in them and we finished at the end of the day we would loosen them while they were hot and wait till they were cooled down to finish taking them out and you better stand back out of the way. This was really a very common practice around our neighborhood until they came with coolant anti-freeze combo. This didn't sound too bad except when you woke up in the middle of the night and remembered you didn't do this fearing a cracked block which we had on the W-30 once. Anyway use your own judgment on wether to drain or not but if you are heat the tractor up and try carefully to loosen the plug then wait till it cools down thoroughly to finish taking it out and when you put it back in make sure to use pipe tape and pipe dope then removal becomes much easier in the future.
