I have a 51 M with disk brakes from fact. The first supers were about the same as M except for more cubes,12inch clutch, opionallive hyd.& etc.which was a stage 1 .Stage 2 superM had all that + hyd. tank under gas tank&battery under seat& more. Stage 3 was the super MTA which also had IPTO ,TA & so on.

The Super M has the disk brakes , live hydraulics, a little more HP and faster gearing. They also usually bring more money when sold. Their only claim to fame was that they moved quicker allowing you to get more done on any given day. I have had a couple that were real dogs.

I asked almost this same question on another forum about a month ago, when I was considering the purchase of a super or standard "M". The main reason I purchased a rougher super over a clean straight m, was the gears and the live hydralics. There are other differences, more power for one, but the gear ratios seamed more usable on a super. Here in Canada, the super is usually $1,000 more, but I needed a working tractor.

1. There's no such thing as a 51 Super M. Super Ms replaced the M in production in 1952.
2. The early Super Ms mainly has a larger engine (264 ci) versus the M's 248 ci. There were some other differences.
