I'm looking at a 5 bar number 35 rake with the front dolly wheels. It looks like a good rake. Anyone use one? Are they a good rake? Thanks.

You don't seem to be getting any hits on this one. I have never used the IH 35 but if it is a 5 bar rake I would venture it is a good one. If condition is good and price is good. I checked it out in the Wendel book, it looks like a standard roll-a-bar design with a variable speed adjustment. I'd probably give it a good look over and buy it if it looks good.

I have used one a lot. They are OK ,the cast iron hitch tends to wear excessivly on the one with no dolly wheel. If you want a good one ,go with a New Holland 56 ,256 ,or 258 .As far as I'm concerned they are the Cadillac of rakes and will hold your money together best.

I agree with Keith on the hitch, it's soft. I've parked my 35. The main gear box shaft broke and I couldn't find any salvage - CaseIH got one in two weeeks for $80. Next season a driven gear broke in three pieces, IH couldn't help. The 35 looks like it was copied from the 55 or 56 New Holland but changed (weakened?) just enough to miss law suits. If you can find a NH you will be happier with part support. My nickel Dick Davis
