Ive got a SM with the live hyds. I just got a Saginaw and am going to hook it up with the down/up pressure. I aslo picked up a IH 2001 loader and want to mount it on the tractor. Im putting a wide front and hopefully a PS unit as well. Will the pump handle all this?? do I need a reservoir for the loader and the ps?? THanks for the help in this.

You will need to install a priority valve so that the powersteering maintains a certain amount of flow while you are operating the other implements. The powersteering and the Saginaw unit are in a closed system so they will maintain a constant volume. The loader will depend on whether the cylinders are one-way or two-way. We operated an old trip-bucket loader on our '48 H when I was a kid. It had one-way cylinders and there was sufficient reservoir capacity for that. Once all of the hoses and cylinders are full of fluid then it should maintain a constant level in the sump.

I had the same setup on my Super M for awhile, and you will need to dial in a happy medium on the flow rate from the flow divider. Too little to the PS system and it starts to drag and pulse, but the loader and hitch operate fast and smooth; too much to the PS system, and it operates very smooth, but the loader and hitch will seem to crawl.

Randy, another approach is to make the PS a closed system. Mount a new or salvaged (from car or pick up) power steering pump/reservoir to run the PS and you won't need diverter valve or adjustments. I'm running three of these set ups they work good. Most pumps are bracketed to run from generater belt and hidden up under the hood. My nickel Dick Davis
