I have a 1952 super C that is running bad. It runs just fine when I first start it but as soon as it gets warmed up it starts missing real bad. It does it all of a sudden. I can keep it running if i choke it real hard. I have put a new coil on it but it didnt seem to help, my next move is new points and condincer. The tractor has been converted over to 12 volt. My question is what do I need to set the point gap at. Any other advice as to what could be causing my problem would be greatly appriciated. Thanks.

I would suspect the points are about shot.
Is there a dropping resistor in the ignition primary circuit? (battery>switch>resistor>coil>points>ground>battery)
Is the coil primary grounded like the battery? (assuming 12 volt - ground, then the - terminal on the coil must be connected to the points)
A weak spark can cause your troubles to act like carburetion problems.
Take a look at the points; if they are pitted badly then be sure to get a resistor in line from switch to coil. Or buy a 12 volt coil with an internal resistor. AND replace the points!!

I think if you tune it up you will still have that problem, sounds like you need to rebuild the carb. If it was the points etc chokeing it wouldn't help keep it running.

While I wouldn't rule out what Wayne suggested....I do agree with the theory that if you are chocking it to keep it running,You may indeed have a carb problem. Are you getting a good flow of fuel to the carb? Check to see tank is able to vent? Sediment bowl is okay and not full of water? I would check these 'fore ya pull the carb.

Sure sounds like a carb problem to me. Sound like you are not getting enough gas to the carburetor. Take a can to catch the gas when you take the fuel line off the carb and see how much flow you have from your tank. (Do this OUTSIDE and NO smoking!)If I remember right, there is a screen on the carb where the gas line attaches to it also. Check it. By the way, the point gap is 20 thousands inch. Good Luck!
