At road speed I get a lot of shimmy in the front tires on my SAV. Is there a way to adjust something that will reduce the shimmy?
Thanks

Bud, Have you checked your toe in on your front tires? They should be toed in between 1/4 to 1/2".
This will help the frontend from wandering. Also how much play do you have in your steering wheel? There are some things you can do to improve this.

Scotty
I have 9/16 inch of toe -in; however ,I did note that the tie rods are not of equal length. The left one is 1/2 inch longer than the right. Is that a problem with shimmy? I wouldn't think so but? My steering seems pretty tight at least compared to some but certainly it could be tighter- is this adjustable or does it require a rebuild of the gearbox?
Any help is appreciated.
Bud

Bud, I just finished rebuilding the frontend on my 49 Super A last year and got the freeplay at the steering wheel down to less than 1 1/2". You want to check the amount of backlash between the worm on the steering shaft and the worm wheel sector. You also want to check that the steering arm coming out the bottom of the steering box is tight. They sometimes loosen up, that arm is on a tapered shaft with a woodruff key. Make sure that you dont have any excessive play in your tierod ends. I left my email address so if I can help any more please feel free.
