I have a 350d that has a char/lyn p/s unit added and I would like to get rid of the pump and use the factory hydrolics. I know from reading the different posts that I will need a priority valve. My questions are how to properly plumb it. I know The primary line from the factory pump must go to this valve first but what about the return line from the torque generator. Can this be plumbed to the factory return line with a tee, or is that wrong. And lastly, I hope, what about the adj. to the valve. Thanks Jerry

I have a 424 IH with the CharLynn torque generator power steering unit that is fed off of a flow divider from the main pump. I am planning to install a separate pump for the power steering, because the flow divider bleeds a steady flow of a couple of gallons a minute from the hydraulic system, reducing the flow available to the 3 point, or remote valves.

Before you decide go do the flow divider route, be aware that you will loose flow in the main system.

As far as adjustments, if you get the proper flow divider for power steering use, it is pre-set, and there are no adjustments to be made.

You could also run the return line to the drain plug of the hyd. tank.

Well, the p/s pump that is on there works but the prior owner notched the hood to put it on and the brackets look bad in the dark and do not work very well. My skills at making brackets is not much better but to have it fit without the hood butchering would have it and the alt. hanging out a foot away from the engine. which isn't very practical. I know a lot of people could make it fit better but I don't have the time or experience to do a good job. Jerry

Jerry - I've got two tractors with Charlynn steering powered from the live pump thru a priority valve. (The Charlynn kit calls the priority valve a flow divider). The systems work great - especially under wet conditions (snow plowing, etc) which cause a belt driven pump to slip.

On this setup the return lines from both the torque generator and the priority valve are teed directly to the hyd pump suction line, just as you suggest. On mine there is no adjustment to the priority valve - just plumbed them up and they worked.
