Is there a way to adapt a hub from 34 to 38 ???

My Farmall 706 has 34" tires and rims that need to be replaced. I recently bought a nice pair of 38" tires and rims that I'm hoping I can somehow mount to my tractor. Originally, I was going to look for another set of rear hubs (that could hold a 38" tire) to slide onto my rear axle. One of my friends told me today though that he "thinks" there might be some sort of adapter that I can use on my existing hubs and that they would be cheaper than replacing the hubs... Does such an "adapter" exist?? If so, where can I order some? Thanks -Matt

Matt, if you look at most tractors set up with the 42" rubber you will find they use a 38" center hub and just weld flat steel "pads" with holes in them to the rim. I wouldn't think this would be too hard to acomplish if you have any mechanical skills at all. The only down side is if you aren't carefull to get everything centered, it may "lope" down the road. Also if you do this, you MUST dismount the tires before you start welding on the rims. Jim Thurnau

There are step up rims, where the rim is replaced with one that adapts to the 34 inch wheel.Check with the tractor salvage yards or tire dealers.(Looked at those for my 966)

Years ago you could buy step-up clamps so you could use 38" tires and rims on 34" wheels. I haven't heard much about that for years. Don't know if anything like that would still be available. I think Unverferth was the name of the company that had them. There were probably others.
