Folks, Most of us from time to time have involved ourselves in O.T. (off topic) discussions, and from time to time the question arises as to whether this is the place to discuss things other than tractors, which is the primary reason we come to this site in the first place. It seems that what we say here does not go unnoticed by Kim and Co., as they have chosen to feature a particular post and ensuing responsed. It was from one of our younger readers, and his question recieved much response. He must like tractors and the people here or I doubt he would have spilled his guts the way he did. While his post was totally O.T., the fact that this young man thought enough of the people here that he could voice his concern and question says volumns not only about the people here, but the fact that there are reasons beyond what anyone of us can state as to why O.T. topics have value here as well as just talking tractors, tools, equipment, etc. I hope that everyone will take the time to read the article as it is printed in its entirety, and archived, so that whenever one of us are tempted to to wonder why we must allow O.T. discussions, that we will be reminded that we may impact someones life in ways we never dreamed, and that life is more than just tractors. I also hope that Kim will run that post periodically for all to read from time to time. I think that the youngster who posted the question feels the same.

Paul: I have read the article, not just how sure I would have responded. I grew up on a dairy farm, in a family of 5 boys and my dad had the ability to turn most work into teamwork. Dad would never expect you to do something he wouldn't work along side you with.

I tried to practice the same with my children, and can report they are a driven group of individuals. Most of all both generations were indenendant thinkers, and didn't mind expressing their views.

Here is the link to the article being discussed. Speaks well of us as members of this site and of the youngster who trusted us.

Amen brother.

I know some people are annoyed with OT posts. I welcome them because the people who frequent this site are pretty much a "brotherhood". We share problems and information daily and TRUST each other's opinions even though we may have to read several responses and hope we follow the correct one.... but at least the responders try to help.
So, where else, but to your friends, would you go when you have something bothering you?

I'm just glad Kim realized the beauty of Youngster's confidence in us and featured the subject rather than canned it for being OT.

Mark

Farmallmaniac, If you back button one page and scroll up above the tractique tractor boards, you can see the article as posted. The total text appears sans names and identities.

Open the home page. Look at the second item. There it is. It's a featured article.
