I am presently buying an International 384 with IH loader. I was wanting to know if anyone knows of any particular probelms with this tractor or if there is anything I can look for. It is a diesel and is in average shape. Starts and runs well but needs paint to look pretty. Paint does not bother me but if it needs something else I want to know about it. Anyone with expeience with this tractor I would appreciate your comments.

Well I cannot offer s much advice as parts man, but I really like my 484. I've just overhauld the diesel engine and really can't say a bad word against it.
The handbrake is a weak point as it's easy to drive off with it till on, eventually rendering it pretty useless, but other than that it's a great friend.

Dave, you're about to get yourself one heck of a tractor!!!! It is a newer version of a 444 diesel. Those things run FOREVER!! On our farm, we've used that series of tractors starting with a 434 in 1969, and still have a couple around today. We have a 384 that we bought new in 1983, the last one our dealer could get, he actually had to bring it from Quebec for us! It now has about 12000-15000 hours on it, can't tie it down any closer than that cause the tach is busted and can't keep em working. LOL Ours has hauled out about 300 cords of wood per year since it was new, along with all the loader duty until 1990 when we bought a new tractor with another loader. It still does a lot of farm work and hauls out wood. It's had one engine job at around 9000 hours, and is on the original clutch. They have the mechanical disk brakes that you will have to service each year ( not replace just clean up), and if you do a lot of heavy lifting with a loader you'll replace the odd front spindle. If you don't have a loader, they'll last forever. If you hadn't guessed, I love those tractors, they're the most tractor for the money, ever built by ANY company!! IMHO LOL If you want to talk to me, feel free to email from the link. Dave

Hi, like parts man said very reliable tractor.
Newer version of B414, 434, 444 with BD154 engine.
We had B414 and 434 with 1550 loader and replaced it in 1981 with 384 and 1550 loader. Kept it till about 1995 and replaced it with 495 and 2250 loader because 384 was not heavy enough to handle large round bales on the loader. The loader would lift them but unless you had extra weight on the back it was a problem moving on slippery ground.

Not the best to start in a cold climate but will start OK with block or recirculating heater.
