I have an IH 25 or 27 sickle bar mower that is complete and in excellent shape. I am located in the Northeast.

I have a buyer who is interested in the mower. What is a fair price?

Randy: Here is how I price old mowers, doesnt matter whether mounted, semi-mounted, trailing, 3 point or fast hitch. You put in a scrap price of $25., then add to that. I price new all the wear parts on the cutter bar; fingers, ledgers, guides, hold downs, knives and bar. I just total up the parts in that catergory that it doesn't need for trouble free mowing, and add that to the $25. Usually the total figure will be $25.

Hey there Hugh! I have it in my head that you and I were emailing about a book I was looking for a while back. Been pretty busy here but I think it was you. I found the book, 150 yrs IH, and bought it on ebay last week. Waiting for it to arrive and looking forward to reading. Appreciate your looking around for me.

Dave

Dave: Glad to hear you found the good book. It is possible you will not be able to raise your finger to the keyboard for the next few days. We will understand and know what you are up to.

In Kansas you see a lot of the 25V and 27V mowers @ farm sales. If they are pretty rough they just bring junk iron prices like $10 or so. I bought a good 27V last year for $35 from a guy that buys and resells old machinery. It was missing the hydraulic hookup but I had one from an old 25V that gave out. If you find one that is good I'd say $50 or $60 tops. There is not much demand for these since most do not fit a 3 point. Most people nowdays use swathers for hay and mow weeds and grass with a rotary.

my guess would be $300-500 for a complete working unit here in New England. There is a guy in Topsfield Ma who's been posting looking for one.

Anybody want to get a truckload of old equipment together and share shipping to New England? Just kidding, but can you really get that for one of these out there?

Yeah, NE prices are way higher then the mid-west. I've been looking for a good mower for a while now for a few hundred buck and have yet to score.

You bet.

Went to a farm sale in Oklahoma a couple of years ago, paid $15 for a 27V. Went back to load it next day and it was gone. Asked around and they told me who loaded it. Called him and he thought it didn't sell so loaded it up. Said if I wanted it, come and get it, he also had another he gave me I guess cause he was embarrassed.

Guess I've got five now.
