I sm currently overhauling my farmall m will end up at 4 1/8 bore. It was suggested to me to put in a camshaft from a 450 instead of my m's.Has anybody ever heard of or done this? What is the advantage? Thanks for any info.

a camshaft from a 450 will not give you any more lift but the duration is different to give more lugging power. it is a better cam.

I see this question come up often, the replacement camshaft from IH is the parts out of a later 400-450, these would break sometimes right at the gear base or at least ruin the woodruff keyway, they made the threads left handed and the gear hub web was made stronger also, this was a problem with live hyd pumps on SM-400-450, the originals were from M that did not have this extra load, the cam will interchange exactly with no change in power.
