Just purchased this tractor. Everything seems ok but the hi-lo shift kicks out of hi range, low seems ok. Any problem with just leaving this problem alone? Not a speed demon lol

I agree with Bluelite, it's not likely to be the tranny. The high range gear in that transmission is just a collar that locks 2 halves of the top shaft together. Besides the things Bluelite mentioned, it could also be that the detent spring is broken or dirty and not putting enough pressure on the detent ball to hold it in gear, or the fork could be bent and not properly engaging the gear ( not likely as that would take a serious pull on the lever to bend!!). If you never use high range it's not a big dael, but since you know this happens, it would seem you do. It's not a hard fix, the rails are all in the top cover. Just make sure that when you put the cover back on that ALL the forks properly engage their respective gears.

Hi Jim, it have a small needle bearing, where the high-shift collar is located. May be this bearing is worn. For changing this part, you have to split the transmission in front of the speed box cover, remove the input shaft and change the bearing. Check for excessive wear on pinion shaft. My 434 does the same on occasion and I figure it's in the shift rail system. Probably an indent worn out or the actuating arm linkage. Nothing a build up with brazing rod can't handle.

Doubt it's the transmission.
