I had made a change last week or so that made it so you no longer had to click on the [+] to expand a thread, it would automatically expand when clicking the thread starter. I did this because many people don't understand that you can click the plus sign to see all responses at once.

Anyway, some of you did not like the change - and some were overjoyed with gratitude that the change was made!

So I've decided to go back to how it was, BUT changed the [+] sign to say [expand] so that more people might be able to take advantage of it. But you can ignore it if you like the old format.

You'll only see this affect the newest discussions. Can't change the old ones.

Thanks for everyone's comments,
Kim

Kim: The advantage to doing this both ways gives good options. If I for example have not been online at YT forums for say 24 hours. I will first check any notifications, second all new postings. The title may not always sugest a particular thread is something one can get their teeth into. You check the opening post of any the title does not clarify this. I then decide where I can be most helpful. If one has to bring up the whole thread it slows things a lot. If time permits I do go through them all.

I also make a practice of looking for genuine questions, that for some reason never get a responce. If I remotely know anything on that subject, I try and get something going on that. I think it is a shame some of these do get missed. Particularly if the person is a first timer. I think we should do more make sure that first timer does not go un noticed. IF I think back to the first time I ever posted on YT forums, had no one responded, how long would it have been before I came back? May be never. It takes a certain amount of intestinal fortitude to come on here and subject your questions or views for the scrutiny of these guys. I personally think we as a group should elect a committee to welcome and make sure these new people don't get left out. That committee could also be, now that you have disclosure, alerted when a new person comes along. Not so much to fall all over them with a welcome , just make sure they feel welcome, by making sure they get answers. Just my thoughts.

Hugh, Your comments as usual make a lot of sense. YOu do sound a lot like my Dad. He would go through the line at a potluck and try a little bit of what he liked. Then after everyone else had gone through the line, he'd make a second trip and if there was a dish that had not been broken into, he would make sure that he took some of that dish, even if he ended up throwing it away because he was too full to eat it all. This he did, because he could not imagine a person going through the trouble of making a dish for a potluck and then taking the dish back home untested. Fortunately, this seldom happened as most of the time, most of the ladies went home with an empty dish, but Dad never left anything to chance. I like you will sometimes make sure I respond to a newcomers post, even though it may seem to many of us a question that needs no answering. But to the person new to tractors or interested in them, If I can answer their question, I will, and I do notice that you do too. I do glean out the smart alecs, and don't comment on every post I could, but I must say that It pleases me when I see some of our younger generation taking such interest in our generations tractors, and I try to help answer their post if I can. Collectivly we can all be helpful and at the same time positive supporters of eachothers love and appreciation of tractors. I know I have a few more questions I haven't asked.

Tweaking here and there is fine with me. Please don't make wholesale pre-emptive changes as was done a few years ago with the UBB type format. The current format is much quicker and presents more information per page than the Red Power Forum.

The only gripe I have is with the search function. When I use the back button, the program usually makes me re-type my search words. As a consequence, I rarely use it anymore. I consider it to be one of the most useful features of this site. There is a wealth of info lurking there.

Kim: I didn't growl, felt like it, but decided someone else would. In the few years I've been around here you have done such a fine job of improving these forums. I am very reluctant to complain, for that reason.

Kim, Thanks for making the forum more versitile. From reading the threads, I see that some like the expanded version, while some like the "old" version. To give us users a choice can only enhance an already wonderful site. You have created one of the prime watering holes for tractor lovers like myself. Kudos to you and your efforts.

I am quite capable of hitting the + sign. It is nice to have the option of expanding/not expanding. Thanks for the forum.

Kim,

I really like what you do, and thank you for all your effort! The change made a good presentation, except for a minor thing... When a thread is opened, only the first one shows as read. That's fine, but any later posts are likely to go unnoticed. I think your change back with the enlarged 'expand' icon is a good one.

Thanks again for your efforts!

Thanks for changing back, and giving the option. I don't like the expanded format when there are "replies to replies" within the thread- in the old format, you could click in the order of replies, but can't tell who is replying to what in the expanded format. Now we have a choice.

I didn't know you had made the change to start with. I automatically hit the + key. Sounds like a good improvement to me.

Thanks for all you do, Kim. This is a great board.

Kim, I like it better when it expands automaticaly, it saves alot of time, since you dont have to keep pressing the back arrow all the time then waiting for the next followup to come up on the screen. I dont know why some people dont like it that way. My $0.02. Also this is the best Tractor forum on the net, lots of Friendly and helpful people on here. Keep up the good work!

Just click on the [expand] and that will give you the expanded format.

Nothing went away, just made it so people had a choice which way they want to view it.

Hope that works out for everyone,
Kim

Keep doing what you are doing, it is a great forum and it all works well. Either way is good for me, so whatever the multitude prefers or you prefer is fine.

Thanks for all your efforts

Thanks Kim, I always find your changes for the better. I really like the addition of the "State" column in the Photo Ads, it saves me a lot of clicking. Your active participation / improvements make this the very best site. Dick Davis

Thanks, Kim

This is a wonderful asset to the care of old tractors.

I always dislike any type of change but you always improve things here.

I always used the "+" because I think it takes the same amount of time to open the entire string unless there are photo's present.

Thanks again, Andy
