Rods N' Mains on my 100

I pulled off the oil pan on my 1956 Farmall 100. Could someone tell me the best way to tell if my rod and main bearings are standard size? I have worked on many bigger engines where the bearing inserts were stamped STD or 010 etc. The bearings in my c123 engine have some letters and numbers on the back but they don't make sense to me.

Thanks,

Bruce

If all else fails, use the plasti-gauge method to measure your clearance, if you are in spec. with what your manual calls for and the bearings are not scored, you should be OK to keep them in. How is your oil pressure?

Measure the journals and see if crank was turned in the past.

The new and used bearings (both rods and mains )that came out of my H were marked +020 on the back. I do not know if that is universal across all mfgs.

Bruce: I can't give you the answer, but it must be on the bearings or rods, as a mechanic used to these can tell just with a quick look. Probably a code.

Thanks for the responses. The bearings are just "OK" and in my prior life as a diesel engine mech I never put old bearings back in. They (the only two I pulled) are only lightly scored and the crank looks fine.
My oil pressure drops to under 10 lbs when it is running, hot, 1/2 throttle, which is why I finally decided to pull the pan and look.

Have you checked the cover on your oil pump? Those cover are cast aluminum and will warp leting the oil blow out around the gasket. This wll cause your oil pressure to drop when hot. Do a search this has been discussed many times.
