I have a 1944 H that has a single front wheel. I've never seen another like it or pictures of any others. Is this a rather unusual factory issue or has someone done some alterations on it sometime in the past? I'm restoring this and a 1947 M and having a blast with them. The H was in a barn forgotten for years and the M has been a working tractor all its life.

Hi,

For years, I had never seen a H without either a single or a wide front end.

Singles were the norm for row cropping in this country.

If you want to get rid of it, I'll buy it.

Regards,

Allan

Thanks for the info. All the pictures I ever see have the double front wheel. I'm sorry, but this one is not for sale; I'm having too much fun restoring it.

single wheels were sometimes used here in midwest with mounted corn pickers.

It was a factory option, Fairly common in some areas.

Thank you for the info. Apparently there weren't many of these in California.

Should have been a lot in the Imperial Valley where they grew vegetables in narrow rows, as that's what they were designed for. Single fronts were very common in those areas.

That makes sense. I'm over in the greater SF bay area so I don't get to the valley. I don't know my tractor's history; we found it in a barn in Morgan Hill and no one knew a thing about it. It must have been used for rowcropping in the Gilroy-Morgan Hill area in the late years of the war.
