Not exactly rare, about 24000 were built, compared to the 390000 or so H's produced which uses the same engine. The W4 was the smallest of the standard tractors, W6 (M engine) and W9 (no row crop version) were the other two. The W6 and W9 also had diesel versions, the WD6 and WD9. These tractors were mostly sold in the Plains states and other small grain/wheat areas and were made strictly to pull trailing implements, as opposed to the row crop tractors which could use both mounted and trailing implements. The front and rear axles were not adjustable, since they were not designed for cultivation. Depending on condition, $2000 to me is a little steep, it shouldn't bring more than an H in similar condition -- $1200-$1500.

No, it is not that rare, in certain parts of the country, you don't see very many, which would make you think that maybe it is rare. In other parts of the country, the w-4 is as common as any H. These tractors were commonly reffered to as standard tread, or wheatland tractors. Also used in rice farming. It would need to be in very good to excellent condition to be worth $2,000. Just my opinion. In average condition, $1,000 to $1,500.

W4 doesnt have hydraulics of their own,,it must have a PTO pump or a pump added to the engine..There are a few in the photo ads for around 3500, I have one or sale as well,, it needs work on the starter and some paint,,I am asking 12oo OBO for mine, looked at a used tractor price guide yesterday in a book store,, really nice shape was listed at 2650-3000 restored was 3500-3800 ,,hope that helps..Jim
