I'm a happy camper today. I just bought a 460D. It seems like an o.k tractor, although definetly not a looker. There are also a couple of concerns I have and would appreciate any help you're willing to offer.

(Don't worry about bursting my bubble. Tractor was bought with my eyes wide open. If she gives me years of service then I got a great deal. If not then I'll get hours and hours of fun making her pretty and dependable again.)

One: the throttle didn't respond very well. Seemed to get better after tractor warmed up (could've been wishful thinking too). Anyone have ideas what the problem might be? I'm personally hoping it's just fuel filters. Any chance my hope is right? (Won't get the tractor home until next week to see)

Two: the pto ran even when supposedly disengaged. Guy said it's done that since he bought it several years ago. Said it would stop after warmed up or if a load on it. Hoping someone will say that's normal or a simple fix but also prepared for much worse. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help!

Even though the 460 & 560 D or Gas were beautiful tractors and pulled great - they put International
Harvester out of business! Too many problems because they were pushed to market too fast with not enough equipment in the drive train to handle
the power. And as everyone knows - the TA`s quit
working real often.
Anyway - take the muffler off - straight pipe- pull it hard and listen to the great sound.

You cant interchange a disk type with a band type you will end up with different pto speeds with out changeing front pto gears.

You are absolutely correct on the different PTO speeds - but it was only 30 RPM's slower - so running the engine a little faster will over come the speed difference - if it is real important. If your mowing - I usually run it slower than the 540, so to me reliability was much more important.

Hi Brian, I am a owner of a 460 Gas - so the diesel question I will leave to the Diesel guy's. I can answer the PTO question. First we need to identify which one of three different PTO assemblies you might have. Does it have a BIG CAP on the left top side of the PTO housing? Does it have a two inch cap on the right side? or does it just have a breather cap and no adjustment cap. The old Farmall 300 PTO will fit on the 460 - that unit is a band unit. The 460 came out originally with a PTO unit that had to be taken off the tractor to adjust the stop clutch. Then they corrected there mistake and put a big CAP on top to put a curved adjustment tool down inside... Not an easy adjustment. I have one of each. My suggestion is to find an old 300 unit and put it on the tractor. The band style seems to be easier to work on and more reliable. Let me know.

Can't say that I paid that much attention, not that I would have known too either. When I get her to my place I'll post back.

Curious as to whether this is common? Do these need adjusted due to pump wear? Wish I could say someone put a pump in it and just hadn't adjusted it right. That's probably just that though....wishful thinking.

Thanks
