My 48 farmall H is smoking like mad. I just bought it and it runs good and has plenty of compression evenly across all 4 cylinders. It doesn't use hardly any oil and uses NO water. Could it possibly be that the pistons are just covered in a bunch of krud that has accumulated over time from sitting or from someone running old fuel through it??

Kippster,

I had the same problem. Mine turned out to caused by too much fuel. After I adjusted the load screw I got rid of the smoke. It might be worth a try.

Kippster, you may have answered your own question...let that H run until the temperature guage is up in the "Run" area, then check for smoke. Bill is on the right track, you may be running too light an oil or you have some coolant leakage, but get the tractor good and warm first...Mike in Exeter Ontario

If white smoke it is water getting into combustion chamber, blue smoke its burning oil, black smoke is to rich of fuel supply. It could probably smoke from sitting for long period of time, but I would think the smoking would be short lived and would go away if it was. Maybe good idea to change the oil, and drain the old gas and use new, and check all fluids including the oil bath air cleaner. Smoking should go away, or you got a problem.
