Most of the ones I have seen that have the exhaust that goes through the firewall (or front tank support)were built between 27 and 28. The earlier ones have 2 exhaust pipes that are just below the carb, one large dia and one small dia, and the 29 up manifold has the switchable baffles to run either gas or kero. If you get yours running it may not run good on gas when hot, just try kero in it as that is what those early manifolds were made to run. Mike is right about the serial number but I can add a bit to help you locate it, it is close to the lower water neck. I have seen a few though that were not stamped and they may have had the engine changed with a new on from the factory. I personally own 2 10-20 parts tractors that have had the engines switched from one to the other, luckily I bought those same two tractors at that auction, there were about 5 10-20s there! See if the serial number is on the boss, post it and one of us can give you the year and then check the date on the main frame casting, they should be pretty close. If all that fails, get a parts book and start looking up part numbers on everything. There were changes made all through the production even in mid year and the serial numbers for changes are listed. A couple things I can think of are the gear shift lever, in 29 was straight with no knob cast in and the older ones have a small knob, also the spark and throttle lever guide on the older ones have a small "arrow" cast in where you set the spark lever for starting, and the later ones don't have the arrow. Carbs another good place to look for numbers and were not too likley to get replaced since they are easy to work on. Mags are a bad place to get numbers since so many were exchanged over the years. You can really almost pinpoint the time the tractor was built down to the week, that is if it didn't have a bunch of parts replaced years ago. Some did, some didn't, depended on how hard they were used and how good of care was taken. Good luck!
