W-9: Adding Hydraulics

Hey guys: the W-9 I recently acquired has no hydraulics. Plow Days are a-coming, and I've realized I'm pretty limited on what I can do with the beast.

Other than the obvious (a pump), where does the hydraulic reservoir reside? Is there a separate reservoir on hydraulic-equipped 9s, or is the oil obtained from the transmission?

Recent posts suggest one common pump fits many models of IH tractors.

If you want the distributor drive pump, one from a W-9, 600 or 650 GAS will work - the diesel pumps are different. New/remanufactured pumps are still available.

As far as a reservoir, they originally had a barrel shaped reservoir on the side with the battery box.

Personally, I would hook up a pump direct drive from the crankshaft in front and buy a universal reservoir and filter. It's up to you whether you want it original or affordable...

Joe:

Before live hyd. there were hyd. pumps that slipped on the PTO shaft that were completely self-contained. Char-Lyn is a brand that comes to mind. All you need is some hyd. hoses and you're ready to go. I've got 3 in the shop if I can be of any help. Morgan
