I was wondering of anyone has ever shaved a head on a M. If so, how much? My head is a casting number 8060.

I shaved the head on my 400 (basically the same motor as yours). I went from 140# compression to 170#. On my head we took off 100 thousands of an inch, any more and we sould have been into the water jacket. The rocker arms should have enough adjustments on them to make up for the head being shaved (push rods will be ok...if nothing else, put a washer under rocker arm support bracket to make up difference). Good luck.

Luke, you can resurface the head as long as you don't take off so much that you lose your ability to adjust your valves. Remove only what needs removing to clean it up. Remember...shortening the head lengthens the pushrods...

I am rebuilding an M Farmall engine. My 8060 head turned out to be cracked. In trying to find another one, I learned that it is common for these heads to crack. To shave some off of one, I wouldn't unless it has untrue flatness and needed to be trued up. I think I have found a good used one, haven't picked it up yet but the guy thinks its O.K. . Hopefully I can end my search for a good one after I pick it up. It would cost around $400 to fix my old one. I believe I would lean toward not shaving. Just my 2 cents.
