removing the belly pump on a super M

I just bought a Super M at an auction this weekend and need to pull the belly pump.
I have pulled the belly pump from my H a few times but I noticed there isn't as much room to work on the M, is the proceedure about the same as an H? I need to find out what happened to the clutch or transmission. the previous owner told me that there was a loud pop then the clutch was released one time and now the engine won't turn over, the crank will move a few degrees back and forth but stops as if it hits something.
If you have any input I'd appreciate your ideas.

Ok I have the belly pump out and found the problem, it is the guide for the throw out bearing broke , throw out bearing is totally shot and the bolts were out of the flex coupling.
the only serious problem is that one of the ears that the guide bolts to is broken off, I guess I'll have to get it welded up but the part that broke off is missing. The engine is not stuck as I originally thought.
Now if I could only find the replacement guide that is made of pot metal or aluminimum I'd be in heaven! I could just make this $175 tractor driveable.

The main difference in H and M is drive coupling the M is actually easier IMHO. M is driven by a "driving dog" that fits into 2 slots. Just turn it to right position and let pump down and it will fall out. When you get in to where you can see it procedue will be obvious.

Will the engine turn over with the trans in neutral? Where did the last owner say he heard the pop comming from? There could be something between two gears in your transmission. Even then the engine should move with the trans in neutral unless your clutch will not realease. I would look at the clutch first thing after you get the pump out of the way. Then try to turn the engine over with the clutch pushed in. Another thing is that something could have let loose under the timing cover and be jammed in your timing gears. If your Super M has the hydraulic pump mounted just ahead of the distributor type letting the clutch out could of torqued the engine enough to mess something up in the timing gears. Post back if you have any luck. Hope this helps

You are right, there isn't as much room as with an H, but the procedure is still the same. I hope you find that the problem is with the clutch, or something related. The symptoms sound like it could be a broken crank shaft, but let's not go there until you have checked out the easy stuff first. Good luck.
