I am having trouble with my 706 gas tractor. It was running fine, then sat for a couple of months, then wouldn't even try to start. Battery is new and full of charge. I got to testing the wiring and found some of the wires going into the harnesses up by the dash were broken from age and corrosion. I can put a hot wire to it and get it to crank, but after looking at the wiring, and seeing what bad shape it's in, I would like to rewire the entire tractor and fix the original wire that caused the problem. I need a wiring schematic if anyone has one. It would be a great help! Thanks in advance!

i rewired our 656 gas after an overhaul this fall. i did it all by scratch. if you cut open the old harnesses, and study the schematics in the operators manual, you can get a pretty good idea of what goes where. also if you want you can simplify things some. i decided to keep it mostly stock although a couple wires could be eliminated if you want. unfortunately, buying the parts aftermarket, you cannot find connectors like the original, and the wire colors are impossible to match without special ordering. now that i work in an autoparts store, i learned a few things...the old conncectors can be reused, but new terminals should be put in them. they are the same as the GM 56 series. otherwise you have to make do with 4 and 6 pole trailer type pig tail conncetors for everything, and they only come in about 14 guage wire. for the charging system i would definitely go with larger wire sizes, along with the lights. and clean your ground points, add some ground points as well.

About 3 months ago, I re-did a 706 diesel, and the wiring harness was still available from CNH at a reasonable cost (compared to some I've bought for OTHER MAKES). It might be worthwile to check this out at your local dealer, and while you're there, talk them into printing out a copy of the wiring diagram for you.
