We are building an F20 with a 350 chevy motor. I have seen several on this website and would like to know if anyone knows which starter to use without cutting the frame. It looks like a mini-starter will clear the frame but I want to hear from someone before I buy one. Thanks

I started to put one in about 20 years ago and had it sitting in tractor ready to make motor mounts but ruined the one in my truck so it ended up there. Was using a 350 with 1966 chevy pickup 4 speed transmission. Had to grind some metal off the side of the bellhousing to fit between the frame but think the stock 66 truck starter fit alright. It bolted to the bellhousing insted of the engine. Still have the f-20 maybe I'll get back to that project when I retire in 4 years.

Sorry, can't help you with your question, but I like the spirit of your project.

I always thought it would be interesting to take a Packard or Jaguar basket case (where the engine and transmission were completely gone) and drop in a more reliable modern power plant, like the small-block Chevy. I imagine you may take some guff from the restoration folk about your F-20 project, but don't listen. Its your tractor; do with it what you will. :-) Personally, I'd like to see some of the "pasture guards" get a new lease on life, even if it is with a different engine than the original.

Dan, I'm not worried about the restoring guys. People cut up 55 chevys and 60's muscle cars all the time. We are fortunate to have a stock F20 also. We have restored about 10 farmalls to original condition and wanted to do something different. Thanks for the replies.
