I use a Farmall M on the farm quite a bit. I need a toolbox, i am tired of having tools slide all over the platform. a lightbar toolbox like the original is what i was thinking about. They are pricey, but i like their looks. Do any of you use them? Are they handy to use, or would i be better off bolting a generic tool box to the frame rails? Thanks for the advice.
Josh

the light bar tool box was a big pain, we bolted a tool box on the pto guard in 1954,and it is still being used,

I went to Wal-Mart and bought a $10.00 tool box (red) and bolted it to the left frame rail on my "H".

Dad had a Super M-TA with the light bar tool box and what I can remember about the box is, they don't hold very many tools. I have dad's old box now but I just look at it in the shed. I like the one on the back to use out of, it's easy to get the hitch pin out of and holds a lot more. But I do like the original look. Your call looks or easy to work out of.

Seems to me there is enough noise from a tractor without a box of tools rattling around in your face. Also the price is ludicrous. Mine's on the back pto cover and I love it there. To each his own.

On the 'H' that I have, my grandpa had an old ammo box bolted on top of the PTO shield. I would say that is about the handiest spot I can think of. You can grab what you need as you are getting off of the tractor and you don't have to climb back on to get more tools.

A buddy of mine has an original lightbar tool box on his H. I like the way it looks, and it's handy at shows and parades to hold a polishing rag, camera, beverages, etc. However for a working tractor I'm with Dan - I prefer a larger box bolted to a frame rail simply because holds more stuff. Also being at ground level it's handier than a light bar box since you're generally on the ground anyway when tools are needed.

I have a Military Ammo can bolted to the side frame on my SMTA. I am more interested in utility than looks as I use mine a great deal. I prefer the box being handy from the ground as that is generally where I am working from. There are some good sized tool boxes available that attach to a back frame that also look good. Most of the lightbar tool boxes I have seen are not very big.

We had a rear mounted tool box on our '48 H when I was a kid. As Josh said it is handy to be able to get to the tools from the ground.

In my opinion they are the best and easiest to use .They look good and contents are available from the seat .They are a little pricey but could always be resold and it won't cost a dime to own it. I have 2 ,one on a Super M and Super H.
